Stub
A flat-edged nib: broad down-strokes, thin cross-strokes.
A stub nib is ground flat across the tip with softened corners: down-strokes come out broad, cross-strokes thin. Ordinary handwriting picks up calligraphic contrast without any technique change.
It is the most forgiving of the line-variation grinds — the 1.1 mm stub is the classic first step. Crisper corners give more contrast but demand a steadier angle.
