Railroading
Flex failure: two parallel lines with no ink between.
Railroad a flex nib — spread the tines faster or wider than the feed can supply — and each tine draws its own thin rail with a dry gap between: the namesake railroad track.
It is the flex writer’s speed limit. Slow the stroke, use a wetter ink, let the feed saturate, or accept a narrower swell. Persistent railroading at modest flex means the feed needs setting or the ink is too dry.
