Cartridge
A disposable, pre-filled ink capsule.
A cartridge is a sealed plastic capsule of ink that pierces onto the back of the section. It is tidy, travel-proof, and beginner-friendly — and it locks you into the maker’s (or standard-international) ink range unless you refill with a syringe.
Most pen brands use either proprietary cartridges (Pilot, Lamy, Sailor, Platinum) or the standard international size (Kaweco, Faber-Castell, most others). Check before you stock up.
