Baby’s bottom
Over-polished tipping that skips on the first stroke.
Baby’s bottom is a grinding defect where the tipping is polished into two rounded lobes with a cleft between them — smooth as anything, but the ink channel can no longer reach the paper reliably. The result is hard starts on the first down-stroke.
Diagnosis: the pen writes after a pre-stroke wiggle but hesitates cold. The fix is a light regrind of the sweet spot — micromesh in careful hands, or a nibmeister.
