Line variation is a nib grind, not a talent you were born without.

Two roads lead to beautiful letters: the stub/italic road (thick down-strokes and thin crosses happen automatically, from geometry) and the flex road (variation from pressure, on the Copperplate model). Stubs reward you in the first hour; flex rewards practice.

Start with a 1.1 mm stub on your normal handwriting before buying dedicated flex — half of what people want from "calligraphy" is already in that grind.
