A student pen earns its place on economics: bottled ink costs a fraction of disposable gel refills over a semester, and a $7–25 pen with a steel nib shrugs off the abuse. Zero writing pressure also means lecture-length sessions without hand fatigue — the underrated spec.

Buy two cheap pens rather than one nice one: ink both, and a dry pen mid-exam stops being an emergency.
